New Background

I was searching for a new springtime maybe even an Easter background and came across this one instead. It is so me...sitting in recliner playing on laptop, pile of new magazines, watching HGTV, doggies curled up by my feet...wasting away the day! Sun is out bright this morning and I should be outside or cleaning windows and getting rid of the winter dust....but this more my idea of a Saturday morning......hope you are enjoying the last Saturday in March also!

Flat Lighting

on the drive along turnagain arm....avalanche crossed road days prior to John driving down.
Bald Eagle in the treeSee how the sky and snow just blends together? If it wasn't for some brown showing through it would be all whites.

Some of their tracks in this picture. Hope that helps some with the "RIDE ALASKA" terminology!!!!

Spencer Glacier

John, Chris and Brandon met and rode back to Spencer Glacier. John had tried three different days but weather prevented him from leaving the truck! Tuesday was their lucky day ( but it was flat lighting makes it hard to see) and all three even had the same the day off ! Here are a few of the pictures John took of Chris and this beautiful blue glacier.

Random pictures of my Girdwood weekend

The ladies in front of the wine window. Someone used my camera and she had to stand behind another window to take this picture. (her head is behind Becky) This is a a fun bunch of ladies -that I am happy to be included in their weekend get together.
Our ride up the tram...Becky didn't like it at all...and I was snapping away with the camera.

All the ski tracks as seen out the tram window

groomed trail

Out the window of the restaurant - view of Girdwood and Turnagain Arm
Snowboarders and skiers and ME had an awesome day The best daughter in law I could ever have at our lunch table
My idea of a beautiful day to ski .....inside by the wine bottles! Soaking up the Morning Sunshine before they go skiing Drive down along the arm...ice chunks look like the moon almost
pristine snowcapped mountain
it was this BLUE ....think this is in the Bird area

At Seven Glacier Restaurant

Lobster Bisque part one
and then he poured the creamy bisque over it...Becky's appetizer. My appetizer was baby pear, blue cheese and cranberries, pecans glazed on endive. It was heavenly and I even ate the blue cheese slice!!!!
My dinner entree....scallops, shrimp, blue or purple cauliflower on a mixture of potato and cauliflower mashed..no idea what the greens in center were but tossed in the perfect blend of candied orange peel and spices.
I should of paid more attention to their orders so I could describe each one accurately but Lobster Hash Appetizer was a hit.
Kobe Beef and Plums ....a bit too rare for me
Grilled Salmon with deep fried avocado ...We couldn't believe she ordered salmon...they are fishing guides and have all the salmon she wants...She raved about the avocado though!

This rates right up there as one of my best dining experiences. It was a perfect evening - rode the tram up at 5:30, had a white russian in the bar and then was seated in the dining room. It was daylight for another hour or so and then we watched the sun set over Turnagain Arm....rode the tram back down the mountain in pitch blackness and into the condo around 11:00pm... hot tub with a glass of wine was the ending of an amazing day!

Placemat (probably) Color Combinations

This material is the back side/lining I guess it is called....has all the same colors so it matches perfectly.Donna made this one when she was here...she sewed with no problems and I am sure my old Singer should be replaced AND if I would use it more than I do now -I would...
And this week I played around with more color combinations. Think I have settled on these three with the green/yellows being my last favorite one.
my favorite one- blue/oranges
and my second favorite one- brown/pinkish-oranges.
Wish the sewing fairy would come back here and finish these for me!

Pink and Brown Knitted Baby Hat

Here is the pic of the cute little knitted baby hat I made this week. Michelle is due the end of March and I will be giving this to "Allison." First time I used this pattern and it worked up easily. I added the felted pink flower from the embellishments I already had from Stamping up! Love that I can intermix my hobbies!

Dinner----Hot Dogs in Red Sauce

What would you like for dinner? John's answer really surprised me... since this is one of MY childhood favorites. We both had mashed potatoes and hot dogs in red sauce last night. YUM
Not exactly a weight watcher meal but I figured the point value and enjoyed our dinner! Mom would be proud to know her recipes are still our favorites!

Lily of the Valley

Thanks, Natalie, for this sweet surprise... Just a little silver cream and "elbow grease" ... and the promise to myself to do ALL my spoons soon...
oh, what a pretty butter knife...
and it goes so well with the new little tray I bought at Ozarks on Friday! I'll add that post next.
Thanks again "Sister Sue" for thinking of me and tucking this in your package! Love you.

Ozark Treasures

Donna and I went to First Friday at Ozark's and had a great time looking at all the new spring things: birds and more birds, painted furniture, jewerly and antiques galore, lots of soft spring colors-except for the orange heels filled every nook and shelf there. Nancy and the ladies have the best decorating style- makes me want to redo my space! We ate some delish appetizers and bought a couple things. Donna got this vase for me--Love the pears and Thanks again! This took my eye and it cleaned up pretty well. Gonna use it as our new butter plate (John will think it is too much) but it goes perfect with the sweet butter knife from Natalie.
All caught up with my blogging. Hopefully Juneau will have something new to take pictures of this weekend.

Where is Mrs.Krein?

Chena got so tired of waiting for Donna to come back to toss the balls she fell asleep!
Time to say bye...

Donna's visit was just what I needed and I didn't even know it until she was here a couple of days. We did a lot ( visited, shopped, crafts, knitting, some twitter and computer updating and of course there were gggggggg's ) I told her she can come stay anytime and I really meant that. Thanks for my "spring break".
The snowstorm on Saturday was a welcomed one because she decided to stay another night and drive home Sunday morning - in sunny blue sky weather!

Spring is Coming

White Hyacinth Blooming and Fragrant....
Sparkly glass beads glisten in the sunshine. I opened the back door blinds today to LET THE SUNSHINE IN.....omg....big mistake...all the dog hair and foot prints show up big time....guess I better become my own maid...or close the blinds!!!!!!

We made several of these sun catchers quite a few years ago but I still smile when the suns shines on the crystal prism and makes the rainbow effect ....so pretty!

Hope this spring weather is happening wherever you are...surely we have lots more weeks of white stuff- after all it is only the first weekend in March... I am hopeful if nothing else!

Spudville's Next Business Adventure?

Now Permafrost Alaska Vodka is Produced and Bottled by Glacier Creek Distillery in Wasilla Alaska.....but it could be produced by Grouse Circle Distillery in Spudanchor, Idahorage!!!!!
The display was set up at Costco's...concentrating on the purest form of glacier ice ("100% natural, free floating, hand cut, virtually pollution free, compressed ice bubbles, hand carved, natural cocktail ice, dense ice, purity trapped in time, quick to chill-slow to melt") used in making Alaska's first vodka.....blah blah blah.....but I need to concentrated on the SPUDS...stacked and sitting on the stainless steel steaming basket as a serving tray...just knowing we are again few days late and a few dollars short of the "purest, perfect, ultra premium" product venture to date..........
Ready for a drink?

Native Crafts at Dimond Center

Susie Hall, Krystal Peterson and myself met at the Dimond Center for lunch at the Perfect Cup and we spend couple of hours looking at and "they" purchased some goodies. It had been a few years since I went to this Rondy event and I was very impressed with how many table spaces there were set up to sell these unique Alaskan items. It was a busy place and my camera came out a couple of times...especially for these ladies. They were each working on there own crafts but wanted to pose for me instead of concentrating on their beading, weaving or knitting.

Aren't these baskets the best? These are "MY" colors ...and so vibrant and the baskets so well done. Telling John this morning that we should go back down to see if any left!
